Berkeley passes ban on candy, soda at registers

Berkeley, Calif. passed an ordinance this week banning specified shops from selling junk foodstuff, sweet and additional in checkout aisles.

Berkeley’s City Council on Tuesday unanimously accredited the “Healthy Checkout Ordinance” which demands suppliers that are more than 2,500 sq.-ft in sizing to provide at minimum 25 ft of healthful things in the area close to the checkout registers.

The rule is expected to go into outcome in March 2021 and it will affect at least 25 stores in the California metropolis, such as CVS, Walgreens and far more. The ordinance handed on Tuesday states that foods goods have to be in the next classes: chewing gum and mints with no extra sugars, fruit, greens, nuts, seeds, legumes, yogurt or cheese and complete grains.
